I sell both. So you might expect me to say “buy both” and move on. I won’t, because most people genuinely only need one, and picking the wrong format is the main reason a jar ends up half-finished at the back of a kitchen shelf.
Here’s how I’d actually decide.
First, what are you even comparing?
Shilajit resin is the traditional form. It’s a sticky, tar-like substance that seeps out of rocks in high mountain ranges, gets purified, and comes to you in a small jar. You scoop a pea-sized amount and dissolve it in warm water or milk.
Shilajit gummies take a purified shilajit extract and put it into a chewable. Same core ingredient, very different experience.
The active compound people care about in both is fulvic acid, along with a group of compounds called dibenzo-alpha-pyrones. The fulvic acid percentage is the number to look for on any label, whichever format you choose.
The honest comparison
| Resin | Gummies | |
|---|---|---|
| Dose per serving | Higher, usually 300 to 500 mg | Lower, usually 200 to 300 mg |
| Taste | Earthy, smoky, bitter | Flavoured, easy |
| Effort | Scoop, dissolve, drink | Chew, done |
| Dose accuracy | Depends on your scoop | Same every time |
| Travel | Messy | Easy |
| Added sugar | None | Some (check the label) |
When resin makes more sense
Resin gives you more shilajit per serving. The human trials on shilajit used between 200 and 500 mg a day of purified extract, taken for around 90 days. With resin, reaching the upper end of that range is straightforward.
Resin also suits people who already have a morning ritual. If you drink something warm every day anyway, stirring shilajit in costs you ten seconds.
The catch is the taste. It’s strong. And “pea-sized” means different things to different people, so your dose can drift.
When gummies make more sense
The best supplement is the one you actually take. That sounds obvious, but consistency matters more than almost anything else with shilajit. The studies ran for three months, not three days.
Gummies win on habit. No mess, no measuring, a fixed dose every time. If you’ve bought resin before and stopped after two weeks because of the taste, gummies are probably your answer.
The trade-off is a lower dose per serving and a little sugar. Read the label for both.
What actually matters more than the format
The gummies-vs-resin debate hides a bigger question: is it pure?
Raw, unprocessed shilajit can carry heavy metals, and the market is full of adulterated products. Whatever format you buy, ask for three things:
- A certificate of analysis (COA) from a NABL-accredited lab, with a batch number that matches your jar.
- Heavy-metal results for lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium.
- The fulvic acid percentage. Not “rich in fulvic acid”. An actual number.
If a brand can’t show you these, the format question doesn’t matter. I’ve written a separate guide on this: How to check if shilajit is original.
So which should you buy?
Pick resin if you want the higher dose, you’re fine with the taste, and you already have a daily warm-drink habit.
Pick gummies if you’ve struggled with consistency before, you travel a lot, or you just know you won’t stick with the taste.
If you’re still unsure, start with gummies for a month. If you’re taking them every single day, you’ve built the habit, and you can decide later whether you want to step up to resin.
Where Allove fits in
We make both, and here’s what’s in each.
Allove Shilajit Gold Resin carries 500 mg of Himalayan shilajit per serving, standardised to 75% fulvic acid, with Swarna Bhasma, Safed Musli, saffron and Mucuna. Every batch is lab-tested at a NABL-accredited lab.
Allove Shilajit Gold Gummies carry 250 mg of shilajit extract with nano gold, in a tamarind flavour. The serving is two gummies a day.
Both come with the batch COA. Ask us for it.
FAQ
Are shilajit gummies as effective as resin?
They contain the same core ingredient, usually at a lower dose per serving. Since the human studies used 200 to 500 mg a day for about 90 days, compare the shilajit dose and fulvic acid percentage on the label rather than the format.
How do I take shilajit resin?
Dissolve a pea-sized amount, roughly 300 to 500 mg, in a cup of warm (not boiling) water or milk, once a day. Most people take it in the morning.
Can I take shilajit gummies every day?
Most adults take them daily as directed on the label. Speak to your doctor first if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, have a medical condition or take regular medication.
How long before I notice anything?
The clinical studies ran for 90 days. Give any format at least two to three months of consistent use before judging it.
